Why I Committed to Clean Beauty

Everything had chemicals & fragrance, which I loved!
Everything had chemicals & fragrance, which I loved!

Call me crunchy or any other thing you want but the proof is in the pudding. When I started cleaning up the products I use in my home and on my body I just felt... better.

I'm thankful to have grown up in a home that defaulted to natural remedies. Sure we had Dayquil & Tylenol but our first line of defense was always echinacea & detox baths.

Although we used natural remedies for illness, nothing else in our house was considered "natural". We are highly processed foods, used Bath & Body Works and bought our shampoo from the grocery store.

Fast forward to my young adult life. I took a deep dive into non toxic living in an effort to treat symptoms that I later learned were mostly hormonal.

These symptoms included

  • painful cystic acne

  • terrible PMS cramping and back pain

  • heavy menstrual cycles I thought were normal

  • bumps on the back of my arms or "chicken skin"

  • mild depression/anxiety

  • headache

  • fatigue

Even though a lot of my friends could relate to feeling the same way I knew there had to be a better way. I had to do something. I started seeing a kinesiologist regularly (my chiropractor) and following nutritionists & naturopaths online

Side note: A book I highly recommend if you're struggling with similar symptoms is In the Flo by Alissa Vitti. I've listened to it multiple times for free on Hoopla and eventually bought a hard copy to revisit for different stages of life.

After getting my own symptoms under control I had to go even deeper into the non-toxic and fragrance free world once I had babies.

Their symptoms included

  • severe behavioral outbursts

  • tiny bumpy rash

  • hives & eczema

Artificial fragrances were the cause of 99% of those issues. Although not beauty product related at their ages we had to switch to a more natural laundry detergent and I doubled down on the body care products in our home.

Non toxic living is not just for women. Men can also benefit tremendously from a healthier lifestyle and clean products. I can't speak on person experience through the symptoms they would have but as far as overall wellbeing, it is universal.

I'm no health expert but I do know what works for me and can't share it enough. Notice I don't claim the products I recommend to be 100% natural. Not only are those types of products hard to find but they're often not as effective. If you do happen to be au naturel than that's amazing! But I found that using mostly natural products with 100% safe ingredients is what works best for my family. They're effective and non toxic. What more could anyone want?!
